| Spot on Nick.acidification is the number one enemy of unpasteurised bottled beer.although of course there are many others. Which is of course why casks of "live" Ale" such as you have mentioned,fare so well.ie they are using the O2 in solution in the cask to create "condition" as they ripen. Of course, some of the beers you mention that have travelled well, will be pasteurised,which means they will be almost bombproof re spoilage. And IMHO, the wrong enemy was selected by CAMRA in the 70s.they chose "Co2" where as the likes of Watneys red barrel being full of Co2 but pastureised. where the real enemy. I think the lack of a pastueriser in many small Franconian brewerys,leads to the problems mentioned. |
