| Yes, there's quite a bit going on right now. A brief summary: the RB "Bummelzug" trains (Regional Bahn, stop at every station, typically older trains and slower than the Regional Express) are being replaced by new S-Bahn trains between Nürnberg and Bamberg. The good thing is, the RB's ran only once an hour, whereas the S-Bahn will run twice or thrice an hour, at least as far as Erlangen and Forchheim, only once hourly to Bamberg. The bad thing is, the new Bombardier trains aren't being delivered on time. And the engineering works on various stations and lines aren't finished, so it's a bit hosed up right now. And the new S-Bahn trains might not be so bike-friendly as the old RB's, at least in how much space will be available. (They will be much easier to board and de-board though.) The best news for me, personally, is the addition of two trains from Bamberg to Nürnberg late at night. Two S-Bahns will run at 23.14 and 00.13 in addition to the two existing RB's at 22.10 and 23.43. This will come in very useful during Bockbierzeit. To have 3 trains per hour instead of 2 between Erlangen and Forchheim or Nürnberg will be nice too. Mainly because it should reduce crowding, I guess. I shall have to incorporate the train and us schedule changes into my personal wallet card post haste! |
