Preaching to the choir here, Jason! Really, I know and agree 100% on the issue of cask vs. keg with ale, am a CAMRA member and True Believer, and have enjoyed observing past discussions here with some of My Fellow Americans trying to grasp the British distaste for gassy beer.

But I didn't say I don't see *any* difference, rather that I don't see *much* difference. And I could have qualified that -- I think I've only ever had the keg "Mönchsi" at Abseits, where Gerhard runs a very decent keg system IMO, with relatively little extraneous CO2. And I should've said I don't see much difference in flavour.

AFA minimising the processing that is done to your beer goes, however, I don't think there's any difference in lagering between keg or gravity barrel Mönchsambacher Lager. I would suspect both are lagered in a tank, then filled into kegs or barrels. How much CO2 is then added to the kegs to gas them up...Gerhard?

Some gravity barrel beer is also artificially gassed up, at least Witzgall Landbier at the Bierkeller, according to the former Keller operator Marcus.

In any case, compare a Mönchsambacher Lager with Rittmayer (Aisch), Roppelt's (Stiebarlimbach, don't know about the other Roppelt), or Griess Kellerbier. It's just simply bland in comparison, lacking real malt depth or pleasant hoppiness. Just a bit ...harsh. Like Mahr's U. It lacks "character" for its strength, as I like to say, yet like the Mahr's it is for some reason so beloved. Either keg or Bauchfass (gravity barrel).

Would love to try their Export vom Bauchfass.

I have tried some key-keg ale whilst in Kent. Some of the so-called "craft beer". Some of it was quite good, condition- and temperature-wise, hard to distinguish from cask, but in general, it's ridiculous that you pay a premium price for it. But yes, it's miles better than standard keg beer.
