Moving to Bamberg |

| Oh, come on. You're not really jealous. Now, if he were moving to Forchheim, then you'd be jealous! Mrs, doggie and I spent 6 weeks in a specifically chosen bit of SE England between Xmas and May, to see how it might be for us to actually move and live there. The question of whether 3 long visits, staying in FeWos there, might help give us an idea of whether we'd really want to move and live there has been answered. It would be really, really hard to move from here to there. Basically, we're spoilt by all the cliché, stereotypical things about life in Germany vs. in England. And not just the superior, sensible plumbing. It's the things we like about the English vs. the Germans, in general, that also would make it difficult for us there. It's like, just get up off yer arse and *do* something about all this crap lying around instead of complaining about it. And there's the rampant Americanisation of the place. But we are pretty sure we want to find a flat, bungalow, or something similarly small to invest in and use as holiday property for ourselves. To live there part-time, that we can do. But have our entire life and livelyhood be based there? Don't think so. Despite the beer and pubs. If we had moved there from the US, it'd be a different story. I'd never been to England before we moved here though. And then there's the matter of them staying in the EU or not.... I imagine Jersey is much nicer in terms of quality of life and prevalence of yobs. But maybe not so great for beer & pubs. |
