| I've got a German friend that lives in Cologne. I've discussed my upcoming trip to Switz/Germany with him. When I told him that Bamberg was a must visit for me he said: "Why do you want to visit Bamberg?" When I told him it was mainly because of the beer he made a strange comment. He said: "Everyone seems to think that Bamberg is the greatest beer city in the world except us Germans." Now I've never been to Germany but have done a lot of book and internet research about it and it does seem to me, from what I've gathered, that the Franconia region and Bamberg in particular is "the cat's meow" when it comes to beer in Germany. So my guess is that either my friend is not much of a beer lover or he has an anti-Bavarian bias. He has commented before that Bavarian's are not real Germans. Has anyone else encountered similar commentary from folks in other parts of Germany? Also how would you rate Bamberg and the Franconia region vs. other parts of Germany for beer? Mark |
