Dan and I have used this for the Rauchbier we homebrew. Unfortunately you can't get the color or heavier smoke from this that you find in the Schlenkerla Marzen. We used 92% in the last one we made and had judges comments like, "not enough smoke for the style." I still think it had at least as much smoke as Spezial's Rauchbier does, but would rather have something more like Schlenkerla. Aside from smoking our own is there a source for better smoked malt here in the states for homebrewing? We're considering cold smoking some Munich malt with beachwood on our own for a future brew. |
