Rotbier

So I had to travel far from "the Nürnbergerland", where Rotbier originated, to find out that it was originally brewed with oats...natürlich before the Reinheitsgebot, in the 14th & 15th centuries. Learnt that from Maurits at De Drie Dorstige Herten in Utrecht, as I dropped off a bottle each of Schanzenbräu Rotbier and Kitzmann 300, for a little tasting to be had on Wednesday at 16.00 (more or less), for anyone who happens to be in the area and curious about such things.

They had a 20L wood barrel of Schwarzbier from a local micro last night, which was actually QUITE good, better than any currently-available German one I've had, that I can recall.

A most excellent place.

(Is that true though, about the oats?)
