Some cracking pints (real glassware) of Fuller's London Pride at Kafé Belgie. Oh, wait, that's chemical fizz, not proper cask beer. Beggars and choosers, etc.

Really, it's a fine beer, and at 5.20€ a pint, not too far from prices in the smoke, I think.

There are some very, very good, new Dutch microbreweries, brewing an impressive range of traditional Benelux beers, as well as some less traditional, what the marketeering-duped kids call "craft" beer. The local brewpub/micro, Maximus, released a new 3.6% blond, überhoppy beer during our visit last month, and it reappeared at Belgie yesterday. Meh, too murky, too Citra-dominant, a hop which I've grown to dislike, as it gives phenolic-like notes which I just can't stand. Please blend it with other hops!

Also, at 7€ / 50 cl, why would I switch from the Pride? The lad at Belgie says he got 3 30-litre barrels, so it might already be gone today, after a couple of days. Then it's off to the sublime Café Jan Primus, where it's 6.20€ / pint (or maybe 50 cl?), I guess. Seriously though, the "beer scene" here is so much more diverse than in certain other European university towns of say, 103,000 population. Qualität has "her" price though!
