Weekend round-up

Been more than wintery enough! I'm just glad to have not caught Joe's cold the other night. Hope you didn't either. Though he didn't sound like he still had it when I saw him on Saturday.

Those keeping score at home: Joe S, Yankee ex-pat in Berlin, was in Bamberg Friday on the way to Munich on Sat. Jason & I met him at Mahr's, where we found the U to be again better than it used to be. And my Hirschschnitzel was excellent, though salty.

Then there was the Pils & Josephi Bock across the street. And then a small "Zoigl" and a new local IPA to me at Abseits. The extra Bock was a mistake.

Saturday's spur-of-the-moment visit to the BrauKunstLive fest in Munich was nicer than expected: while it was too crowded, it was manageable. And there was lovely cheese.

And Estonians are brewing some good beer these days. I did work my way through quite a few 10 cl samples of bottled American beers, nearly all new to me. The so-called "session IPAs" were largely a disappointment compared to what proper "pale 'n 'oppy" cask beer in England is though: fizzy, lacking body despite higher ABV, and all too often the annoying oniony hop profile.

And Thornbridge's AM:PM blew them all away.
