Sadly, I have to say that this is oart and parcel of a tip-based service, where workers are expected to make up for poor wages by soliciting gratuities. If you come from a country where tipping in pubs is not the norm, it's a constant mystery as to the amount that should be given and I have sought advice from many locals in different places over the years. It takes a bit of nerve but I have taken to not giving a tip when the service is bad, taking into accout, of course, prevailing conditions, such as a busy environment and under staffing. |
