Helles/landbier's in the city of Bamberg? |

| You may already know this, and if so, forgive me. "Landbier" is not all that much more than a marketing term. It translates to "country(side) beer", but is made by gigantic city breweries as well as tiny countryside ones. It can be dark or pale as well, though I would bet most are pale. Witzgall's Landbier is among the very best you'll ever find being sold as such, and is indeed brewed at a countryside village brewery. Nowadays, you'll find it only in bottles; the Bierkeller where they used to serve it from the barrel is closed. Their other beer, the Vollbier, is an excellent Hell(es), and could also just as easily be called a "Landbier". It's on draught at their tavern in Schlammersdorf, a 2.8km walk from Eggolsheim station. And you can have a bottle of Landbier there too. Bus 265 from Forchheim runs there hourly(?), and occasionally also from Eggolsheim, when school's in session. |
