The VGN website is a fantastic facility, once you have learned to navigate it! Actually, not so difficult woth Google translater switched on and realising silly things like Hallstadt becomes Town Hall in this process. But, having trawled through various bus timetables, it becomes clear that many of the areas surrounding Bamberg (even quite inner city areas) are very badly served in the evenings, after 19.00. This is often commented on in GBG Germany and make things a little difficult if you want to go for a night out in Bamberg or elsewhere. Living in a country where visits to a pub usually take place after 10 pm, I find it a bit difficult to adjust to daytime drinking but guess I'll have to join the regulars at 8.30 a.m. in Fassla - though not sure how spouse will react! I assume that the 9-- series have now replaced the old 8--- series mentioned in Steve Thomas' book? Final, I mentioned the AST taxi system in a previous message - it is shown on the VGN (and I think Bamberg) sites and suggests that a taxi can be ordered after certain routes stop running (i.e. to Bischberg, Hallstadt, etc.) for the same price as the bus. Would someone with a better grasp of the German language like to try to make sense of this for me? I would be very grateful - even to the extent of buying the lucky person a seidla if we ever meet!
