The reason why Ryanair get such a bad press in Germany is because of their aggressive marketing approach and particularly to the fares charged by Lufthansa. For a number of years, one or more of their aircraft was painted with a slogan that mocked Lufthansa's outrageous prices (can't remember what it was but you could probably find it by googling if really interested). Then last year, they cut a lot routes of German routes as a protest against the landing/takeoff taxes imposed by the German government. This is nothing new, as they have mounted similar campaigns in several countries, including Ireland. I view them a bit like CAMRA - you mightn't like everything they do but they have made a massive impact. I suspect that, without Ryanair, we would still be paying through the nose for European travel. Like the £240 that I used to have to pay to travel from Bristol to Dublin back in the early 1990s. |
