Fractional-pint Measures in the UK |

Going back a bit.... > Can you buy 1/3 and 2/3 pint measures? Yes, though I think it's very rare. There was one classic pub on our Liverpool crawl a year or two ago that offered 3 - 1/3's for the price of a pint that my mate & I took advantage of. That place, OTOH, did *not* give out free tastes, a policy which I think is questionable at best. The most *excellent* Leeds CAMRA fest in March have over-sized pint glasses with 1/2 and 1/3 markings. I drank dozens of different beers when I was there, and never once ordered more than a half, and rarely more than a third. Well, maybe I did get a pint of the fantastic Osset White Rabbit(?), a "white golden" hopmonster of around 4% abv. Damn, what a beer fest -- highly recommended! A third *is* enough to get a "proper sampling" of a beer. Why some people insist that only a full pint is enough to do so is beyond me; it makes me wonder if one can get a real "proper sampling" of Kellerbier with only a Seidla! > And why would you want to? Because I want to drink different beers, not just the same one over and over, and a pint (größer als ein Seidla) is too much when there are 5 beers on I want to drink? I am confident enough in my manhood to order not only a half (my default in the UK, unless there's very little on offer I'm interested in), but even a third when it's available. |
