| Oh, yes, there are indeed many maltsters (Barry, plural of "maltings", please!) around, even as you approach Bamberg station by train from the south, you pass by the other Bamberg Mälzerei. Steinbach in Erlangen (where I live) make their own malt, and there is a maltings in nearby Frauenaurach, dating back to the 13th century monastery formerly there. I always just wanted Weyermann because of their reputation for quality; I'm not so keen on buying a 25 kg sack from someone else and finding out it's not so easy to work with. And there's the issue of organic malt: Weyermann makes lots of it. And now I see that these two local ones do as well...hmm... |
