Weiss or Weizen

I love the Weizenbocks.....Schneider Aventinus, Weihenstepahn Vitus, Erdinger Pikantus, Ayinger Weizenbock.  All great, all available in the USA.

But as far as regular weiss beers, the best of them all is the Hofbräuhaus Traunstein Gastro Weiss.  Not Franconian, but truly the best "regular" weiss beer I have ever had.  From their webby:

"A speciality wheat beer only available on-tap for the catering trade. More fine yeast and less carbon dioxide makes this unfiltered beer an especially easily-digestible pleasure. The rich consistency invigorates the senses, the lush colour is pleasing to the eye, while the full-bodied flavour is convincing. It is not for nothing that the master brewer calls it „the smoked meat of beers“.

Truth be told, if any of you are ever in Munich, make the trip down to Traunstein for this remarkable beer.  I have had it twice in the brewery taproom after tours.  I was told it was available at various restaurants to which Traunstein HB  distributes.  But strangley enough, I wasn't able to get it at HB's restaurant outlet in Traunstein itself.  So call them to see where you can get it!

It will rank at or near the very top of any weissbier fan's list.  Guaranteed.

You're welcome   ; )
