I couldn't possibly imagine you being 'contrarial' (is this a word?), Nick!

I'm a great advocate of training for all things (was my livelihood for years) but training to tell people how they should taste things?  Just get out there and do it!

Apart from anything else, I can't see how it can work with beer.  To an extent, it seems justifiable with wine, which is, generally, preserved well in bottles, allowing the taster a great range of possibilities.  But beer, apart from that which is bottle conditioned, is not preserved well in bottles as it must be adulterated with added CO2 for preservation.  So, does this mean that Biersommerliers only recomend bottle-condtioned beers?  If so, there ain't gonna be many German beers to sample!  Out of the vast range in my local Edeka, there is only 1 bottle-conditioned beer: the Bayreuther Brauerei's Aktien Zwickel, which I quite like.
