Ungespundetes vs Kellerbier

I was in Bamberg in July and I was pretty sure that the casks in Mahrs were real. The ones in Fässla are definitely fake. As far as I can tell Ungespundetes and Kellerbier are often used interchangeably. I think, though, that Ungespundetes does imply that it's served by gravity. Kellerbier (and Zwicklbier) is just an unfiltered beer. Kellerbier does not necessarily imply a specific style. Usually, it is the standard beer in unfiltered form. In Franconia this means a "lager bier" (amber lager) or a dark lager (in the bitter Franconian style). In Austria, it's usually a Maerzen (the pale yellow Austrian version of the style). Confusingly, around Bamberg there are plenty of small breweries that serve a Kellerbier directly from an oak barrel - Neder in Forchheim, for example. There are also beer served from oak casks that are NOT Kellerbiers, in that they are filtered. Augustiner in Munich is a good example. There are several pubs in central Munich that sell their filtered helles straight from the cask. Koelsch - very often served direct from wooden of metal/plastic barrels - HAS to be filtered to be called Koelsch. The Alt beers of Duesseldorf are also served clear from oak barrels. In Britain you won't find a bottled beer labelled as "cask". Cask can really only be used for draught beer (unlike the term "draught" which is incorrectly used in reference to some bottled beers). Bottled beer can be "real ale" in the same way as cask ale, if it is bottle-conditioned (where the carbonation comes from a secindary fermentation in the bottle).
