Kellerbier - a style of its own?

I'm not sure I'd call "Kellerbier" a style -- its more of a "process." Sort of like "Real Ale." A particular bitter might be "Real Ale" but not all bitters are "Real Ale." Actually we could call them "Real Lager" -- unfiltered, served with no added CO2. I understand there were a number of such beers (I don't know if they were Franconian or Bavarian) that were well recieved at the recent GBBF in London.
