I've not yet been there ["ein Bildungslücke"], but it's named as the biggest Upper Franconian Kirchweih/Volksfest. Originally a religious event, it now is indeed more like a beer fest (and sometimes also a fun fair). http://www.sandkerwa.de/ (only in German) And yes - there should be quite some beer stalls about indeed.
