Bamberg visit - Mahr's & U

Yeah the German beer consumer is a funny character. I guess CAMRA has been succesful in the UK because enough of the consumers care to make it work. I'm not sure it could be pulled off in Germany from what I've seen. My good friends from Hamburg thought they were beer lovers until they visited Bamberg and Franconia with me each of the last 3 years. Now they know that they had no idea. These people were born and have lived in Germany all their lives and had no bloody idea what the beer scene in Franconia was like at all. At least one of them lived in Koln for a while and grew fond of Muehlen Kolsch so there is hope for him. The other drinks Astra (argh!!) almost exclusively and thinks without blinking an eye that it's the best beer in Germany. Oh well, I've made some progress. One of them begrudgingly admitted to me on my last visit to Bamberg that he's grown rather fond of the city and the beer and looked forward to meeting me there this time. A tough admission for a native Westphalian that grew up on Konig Pilsener.
