Slightly off Franken topic but I thought that I'd give you the sad news that I finally drank my last bottle of Hirschbrau Helle last night - 13 days after the supposed drink by date of Dec 27. There was slightly less as I swung the top off and it didn't bubble away quite so furiously. Mind you, perhaps that was because it had been stored in my unheated utility room and we have been suffering night time temperatures of up to -8C. Ok, I know that's nothing for you guys in Central Europe but for the Atlantic coast it is perishing! When poured into my Hirschbrau sidla, it managed a beautiful head and, most important, tasted absolutely delicious. On topic, it confirms for me that there is no reason why Mahrs shouldn't broach another cask when their daily U runs out. I simply can't belive that it would suffer that badly, except perhaps in the height of summer. Then, as someone said, they could use smaller casks and open them more often!
