OT: Question on British English
Posted by Fred Waltman on 2010-01-28 06:39:32
I am re-reading John Le Carre's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" for the first time in maybe 20 years. There is a scene in an Indian restaurant where Smiley orders "krugs of beer." Is this common British usage? Both Smiley and author David Cornwell (Le Carre's real name) are German speakers, so maybe he just thru that in? ...Back to your regularly scheduled drinking...
