The only mediocre meal I've ever had in Franconia was some fairly blah kesselfleisch at Schlenkerla, but it still wasn't out-and-out bad. I was just reminiscing this morning about a meal I had a Roppelt - not the keller, but in the pub itself - of beautifully smoked pork belly with the best damn beans I've ever tasted. The beans were basically giant kidney beans, oh so tender, and flavorfully cooked in broth that clearly had a dollop of pork fat in. Alongside, a seidla of the house lager. Perfection.
