VGN tickets, maps, journey planner.....

The VGN ticket coverage is eye-bleedingly thoroughly documented here: http://vgn.de/media/static/tarif_gesamt.pdf though you do have to scan around a bit to pick out the bus lines. (N.b. this map doesn't show the tram lines in Nürnberg & Fürth; for the Nberg-centered tarif map, go here: http://vgn.de/media/static/tarif_nuefue.pdf .) . Here's the VGN topographic map: http://vgn.de/media/verbundraum.pdf which shows major cities, train lines, and the county (Landkreis) borders in the coverage zone. And of course the English version (which ain't bad, and seems to have everything one would need) including trip planner is here: http://vgn.de/CFF6B06F-C0B4-11D7-AE44-00034709FE0C (nice URL, people!) One thing not covered in the English version is the "Haltestelle" tool (stopping point), which enables you to pick a stop from a zoomable map and get info for connections for the stop: http://vgn.de/komfortauskunft/haltestelle/ (click the map icon to the right). Using this, I see that...lo and behold...there's a bus directly to Geisfeld! This must be new. Bloody hell. http://vgn.de/efa9/efa96/roccas/TTB/00002033.pdf shows that you can take the 970 from Bamberg to Roßdorf, Geisfeld, Melkendorf, Tiefenellern, and even Huppendorf (but no pick-up there).
