Schuetzenhaus in Gaustadt

Last week in Franconia was a bit of a wash out for me. Almost constant downpours meant that most of the kellers were closed, and walks in the country were unappealing. I did manage to make it Meister in Unterzaunsbach (a superb pint) and Drummer of Leutenbach (OK, nothing special IMHO). The first two days of the Nuremberg bier fest were a cold, windy mud bath. And they were serving the beer way too cold for my liking. The sun came out on the Friday and dried things up a bit. But I had to head back by then. Hoffmann and Eilschbrau were my favourites. On one of the nice days during the week, I got the bus from Bamberg ZOB out to Bischberg. After visiting Sonne and Schumann's Keller (very rustic!), I began to walk back into Bamberg and stumbled upon this gem of a place in Gaustadt. Schuetzenhaus in Gaustadt. A true local's place, with a lovely beer from Wagner of Merkendorf. http://www.bamberg-guide.de/bamberg/bierundbierkultur/location.php?loc=330
