The official closing hour for the stands is 1 a.m. That means the last order should be at 0.30 a.m. The same times count for the pubs within the area "Sand". Outside this area to the line of the railway the official closing time is 3 a.m. (p.e. for the brewpubs Fässla and so on, but these pubs will close earlier voluntary). Behind the railway line the pubs can open until 5 a.m. (but there will be no demand apart from discotheques and so the Café Abseits p.e. will close depending on the demand - perhaps around midnight). The frontier between the area "Sand" and the nearby areas are difficult to see for strangers. So the "Pelican" is outside; Café Müller and the whole Austraße and the Lange Straße (Calimeros and so on) are outside (part of the area "Bamberg-Mitte"). The frontiers are historic and depend from the so-called "Bürgervereine" (community clubs) and the constraints of their domains around their churches. The church Elisabethenkirche and the community area of this church is the "Sand". The "Sand" area: * Am Leinritt (Regnitzufer) * Elisabethenplatz (Obere/Untere/Elisabethenstraße) * Elisabethenstraße (Leintritt/Elisabethenplatz/Dom) * Katzenberg * Kasernenstraße (Katzenberg/Leintritt) * Obere Sandstraße * Ottoplatz (zwischen Dom- und Michelsberg) * Sandbad (Kasernenstraße/Leinritt/Elisabethenplatz) * Schrottenberggasse (Untere/Ottoplatz) * Untere Sandstraße (südlicher Teil) "Sand" comes from sand stone. There are guides through the sand stone hill Stephansberg (underground), organised by the VHS Bamberg (adult education center). http://www.vhs-bamberg.de p.e. at 16th august 2010: http://www.vhs-bamberg.de/kurse-seminare-veranstaltungen/suche/seminar-detailseite?seminarCid=226010 You need "Festes Schuhwerk und warme Kleidung" (footwear for hiking and thick clothing and a flashlight. The whole list of dates of this guide: http://www.vhs-bamberg.de/?CID=5075&searchword=stephansberg The bureau of the VHS Bamberg is in the near of the brewpub Spezial (Tränkgasse 4 - 96052 Bamberg). The guides are in German. I don't know if they do this for special groups also in English or the the regular guide can speak English.
