Upcoming Bamberg trip |

| I will be making my 4th trip to Bamberg arriving September 2 and departing Monday morning September 6. My previous three visits have always been in the winter. My wife will be coming along and she has never been to Bamberg so we will be visiting the various churches etc. We do plan to go to the major taverns but one reason for this visit is that I have never been there in warm weather and plan on visiting beer gardens. We will be arriving midafternoon on Thursday and departing Monday for Nürnberg and then to Regensburg and then to Munich. We are planning to go to either Debring or Bischberg for Kirchweih. If you had to pick one, which would it be? Another factor is that since they are both close to Bamberg and we like to walk we are considering walking to the fest and then either walking back or taking a bus. I believe Bischberg has a bike route so that might make that decision unless Debring is also a pleasant walk and someone has a strong opinion. We are also planning a day trip to Coburg to see possibly Schloss Rosenau (if the logistics work) and the fortress and the town. I realize that the beer in Coburg is contract brewed but it can't always be about the beer! Essentially we have Thursday afternoon and early evening (jetlag will end the eve) then one and a half days in Bamberg and a post-Coburg evening (assuming we go to one of the Kirchweih for a couple hours and to Coburg for the day.) If you had to choose among the various beer gardens in Bamberg, primarily for ambience, which would be your top choices? On Monday, we will go to Regensburg but spend part of the day in Nürnberg where I have also been a few times and essentially know what I will be doing with our limited time. Thanks for any suggestions on the best beer gardens in Bamberg and if anyone has a strong opinion on Kirchweih in Debring or Bischberg. Finally, if anyone will be in town Sept 2-5, it would be great to meet for a beer or three. |
