Bamberg at the start of Lent?

In the spring not so many breweries have bocks than in the automn/fall. P.e. the Schlenkerla has two Bocks in fall (Schlenkerla Urbock - Oktober, Schlenkerla Oak Nov/Dez), but no Bock in spring (but: Schlenkerla Fastenbiert which is a little bit stronger than the original Schlenkerla but no Bock). So the bock beers are rare in the spring. And the most of them are Maibocks (available after Your visit or starting 1th may). Some exampels for bocks You can get: Drei Kronen, Schesslitz, http://www.kronabier.de/index1.html has a great weizenbock (popularity award of the European Beer Star Award) http://www.european-beer-star.de/ Until 2009 it was a saisonal bock (starting: March). But since this year they brew this bock from september to april (the award give a greater demand). You should try this bock and visit also the oter breweries of Schesslitz (Barth-Senger is a must). The pale Maibock of the brewery Hartmann, Würgau, is available from January to Mai. Mahrs Bräu Weisser Bock: Ash Wednesday The brewery's website give no description. On the website of Café Abseits I have written: http://www.abseits-bamberg.de/2005/02/mahrs-weisser-bock.html At Café Abseits we bridge the gap (without bocks) with saisonal bocks from the automn (p.e. Schlenkerla Oak or Haberstumpf Fastenbock) or non saisanal bocks. Our first saisonal bock from the spring 2011 will be Huppendorfer Josefi-Bock (19th march).
