US vs British English 'on'

Hi Don! How did we ever manage to understand each other? Guess it was the beer talking! OR The prices are up 30% from last year's OR The prices are up 30% compared to last year's These two might be commonly heard in British English. Guess the serious point is that,m when actually speaking most languages (even German as I found in Zoiglland), as long as you get most of the key words into a sentence, you can be understood. Ok, may not work in a court of law but in ordinary conversation having a good vocabulary is the main asset required.
