Yes, that walk is really for warm weather as it's pretty exposed on the bike track and the forest walk would be really hazardous in very bad weather. Sounds like you landed on your feet in Eichorn - the people there are friendly, if a little reserved. I did warn about the bus! You could have walked to Hallstadt Station (about 2kms by road) but the trains are a little infrequent. Anyway, all's well that end's well! I had a slightly older VW in the 70's and the wiper/defrost system was totally useless, even in a temperate climate like the UK. It's a shame that you missed Goldene Lowen - I'm trying to encourage as many people to go because our conversation with Frau Diller (thanks to Don) suggested that it wouldn't survive too much longer (could we all club togehter to buy it!). Glad that the 5-seidla worked for you - we tried but both Hummel and Wagner were unexpectedly closed. Seems like quite a few of us will be around in late Spring - maybe we should post our dates well in advance and try to co-ordinate for transport, etc.
