Bamberg-London by train

Hi John -not sure where you live in the UK - is your journey to Stansted really that bad? We use Natiuoinal Express coaches (actually get a good deal because we're over 60). As you'll know from this forum, because of where we live on the West Coast of Ireland, I've spent hours, no days, looking at all the alternatives and comparing travel times, costs, etc. Whichever way I look at it, I can never beat Ryanair out of Stansted, even with having to fly over from Shannon. In September, we did the most complicated route SNN - Gatwick; STN - HAHN, then shuttle and train to Bamberg. Return via Altenburg - STN, STN - SNN. It was complex but interesting and, thanks to Landekarte cost around €150 for 2 (would have quite a bit cheaper but we couldn't guarantee a connection in Frankfurt to buy a cheap fare in advance). With that new ticket that Jan mentioned, I think we could cut the cost buy about €30 now. I'd love to use the train but, for two people, the cost would be €196 and we'd still have to get to London. I wish I lived in the UK, because I'd simply get the National Express coach to Stansted and then fly to Memmingen, from where it is only a 4-hour train to Bamberg.
