Come to think of it, I've seen this in my visits to various brauerei pubs in Bamberg. Ah, to be in the Schwemme (good to get the spelling right - thanks Nick) in Mahrs... Incidentally, 'growler' used to be what we called little pork pies (the little hard crusted ones, with jelly) in some places in England. Many years ago, before pubs got into the food business, they were one of the snacks that were often available, along with pickled eggs (spouse still makes these for old times sake). Before I left UK ten years ago, there used to be quite a few real ale off-licences where you could buy beer. I remember a good one in Bristol. |
