For a small brewery to survive in Germany it needs two things: good beer (i.e., a brewer) and local people to drink the beer. The biggest hurdle is the people. If the young people leave the small towns for life in the city, then there are fewer to take over the operations and fewer to drink the product. Sad, but true.
