Generally, I prefer what you would call a "session" beer, that the locals consume in large quantities. In the UK this would be something unextreme, most probably a Yorkshire bitter. Let's say Timothy Taylor's, for the sake of argument. Although that might be classed as a pale ale... I am not bothered too much if it is a "real" ale or comes from a cask or keg.
