7 AM, actually. We have a Hausmeister to do it for us, though I'd often rather do it myself, as he sometimes does a half-arsed job of it. The insurance issues here are a bit more secure, I think. Because we contract someone to do it for us, I believe they're responsible. And this country seems to be a bit more self-responsibility-oriented than yours. Also, salt is verboten in our city, but some people still use it. In *general*, I'm in favour of no salt on the roads and pavements, but then it does make getting around bloody difficult. I did put down some salt for our kitchen salt mill out front yesterday, actually, which did work pretty well. Speaking of bloody, I slipped and fell down our front steps late last night whilst taking our puppy out before bed. He's fine, but I landed on my elbow on one of the steps and rolled down the remainder. The steps are steel grate, which normally makes them very safe...except when there's a couple mm of ice on them. http://i48.tinypic.com/2cmrg2g.jpg So I had my first emergency room visit in Europe at midnight last night, where the Greek doctor kid (speaks *perfect* German, he's been here 12 years!) treated us very well. Except for the half-hour wait for unnecessary x-rays, it was quite impressive, though we do live in a medical university town. No stitches, . . . . THE SQUEAMISH SHOULD STOP READING NOW BUT IT'S REALLY NOT THAT BAD . . . . . . . . . . . they just had to trim away a bit of mangled subcutaneous elbow fat and bandage it up. They gave us the scissors to take home as a memoir, since they can't re-use them, too. 9€ taxi ride each way for 2.5km, including tip. No, I wasn't drunk. Just not thinking. |
