My batch size is 21 litres / 5.5 gallons (US, Barry!) yield, where I start the boil with 7.5 - 8 gallons. I reduce boiloff by putting the lid on the kettle, covering it about 3/4 of the way. This helps keep the Stammwürze and resulting alcohol level down, as well as keeping the batch size up. I used to do smaller batches (about 85% the size) when boiling indoors, but with the "new" 36 L induction kettle, I can do a whole batch. My outside setup is a 12 kW propane burner, which is more than enough for my old 10 gal stainless kettle. I really want to find a place where I can set up a 1 barrel brewery kit. Maybe one of the Bubble Tea shops that popped up here last year and are dying off will become available cheap. Maibock? It's not even March yet! |
