So, does that mean that she would be looking for 6% on top of what might be produced by an alternative investment? Just done a quick google on the subject. The general answer suggests net margins of 20 - 25% but most of the respondents were from North America and I believe from previous discussions that the retail price of beer is a fair bit higher there than in Germany. Keeping costs down (no frills, no staff), you could possibly manage a similar figure but no guarantees. I like the sound of the deal with the Turks - not big consumers of beer in their own country but probably a bit different in Deutschland. Sounds like you could get a good deal going and, if the vacant premises were used for retail previously, it will probably meet with strict German laws. I still don't think that I would invest in brewing equipment for the moment, even though I know that is the main rationale behind the venture. I would be tempted to go for a good deal with one of the hundreds of Franconian brewers to test the waters, then, if you found that was successful, move slowly into the brewing business. I understand that there is a fair bit of second-hand brewing equipment around, probably from failed enterprises! I assume that you will be going for top-fermented ale rather than botton-fermented beer? Do you think that there is a market for this? |
