Comparing Bland Beer |

AFAIK, the stuff in the barrel "auf dem Keller" outside is Edelstoff, and the Hell is only served inside with CO2. The latter is drinkable, even quite decent, whereas the former... Okay, that's it. This calls for drastic measures. I shall procure some bottled Edelstoff and a couple of pale Franconian "Export" beers (since that's what Augustiner call Edelstoff) from Fränky Getränke here, and do a blind tasting/comparison/contrast, with Mrs doing the serving. Maybe even some US macrolager, if I can find some. Right now, bierzwerg.de only lists Coors Light, which isn't really a valid candidate IMO. What German macrobeer should I include, I wonder...Beck's or other Preußisch (northern) bland "Pils" aren't really good candidates either. Don't think this one is the same as the regular Tegernseer Hell: < http://www.bierzwerg.de/product_info.php?info=p4332_tegernseer-max-i--joseph-jubilaeums-export--0-5-liter-mehrwegflasche.html > Also a good candidate, strength-wise: < http://www.bierzwerg.de/product_info.php?info=p2133_gampert-braeu-foerster-gold--0-5-liter-mehrwegflasche.html > Intersting, but probably too good for these purposes: < http://www.bierzwerg.de/product_info.php?info=p424_mauritius-urtyp-export--0-5-liter-mehrwegflasche.html > < http://www.mauritius-brauerei.de/biere/urtyp-export.html > And just for kicks, that site where people --just anyone, not professionally-trained brewery personnel or beer historians-- give "ratings" to beers says: < http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/mauritius-zwickauer-urtyp/10194/ > < http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/augustiner-edelstoff/9605/ > (a full 5 star rating!!!) Ah, but in their "overseas" assortment, they do have the likes of Asahi and Kirin, among other international swill contenders. (And some interesting good-sounding non-swill stuff too.) < http://www.bierzwerg.de/index.php?cat=c46_Biere-aus-Uebersee.html > (4 pages to click through as of today) (Mike B., feel free to express non-interest in the results!) Those interested in ordering *good* Franconian beer for international delivery (or within Deutschland, natürlich) should browse their Vollbier sections, as they seem to have quite a bit at the moment: < http://www.bierzwerg.de/index.php?cat=c49_Vollbier-Dunkel.html > < http://www.bierzwerg.de/index.php?cat=c50_Vollbier-Hell.html > |
