The most brands are not registerd world-wide. If the Zoigl will get a geographical registered brand, an Irish brewery (as part of the European Union) loose the right to brew it outside the area Oberpfalz. But they can open a brewery in the Oberpfalz or let it brew from a contract brewery in the Oberpfalz. Nice examples for the fact that German / European name rights are nothing in other parts of the world: The brazilian brewery Bamberg is brewing a "St. Michaelsberg". http://www.cervejariabamberg.com.br/ingles/cerveja.php?musica=1#st_michael I have tasted this wheatbock some times in the last years. It's a wonderful wheatbock in a champaign bottle. The brewery Bamberg is focused on German beerstyles. They have also brewed a Kölsch and a "Sticke". A little bit crazy for franconian ears is the name of their "Bamberg Munich", a Munich-Style pale lager. "Münchener Bier" is also a registered geographical brand, so Your irish brewery has not the right to brew in Ireland a beer named Munich. |
