Base Camps |

When you get right down to it, it's tough to beat Forcheim and Bamberg as a base camps. A couple of places that intrigue me though at least for a short stay are: 1. Grafenberg - two breweries with one being also a hotel. Walking distance to other brewereis along the "Funf Seidla Steig". Train connection to Nuremburg as well if I'm not mistaken. 2. Burgebrach. Bus access to Bamberg. Two nice bier kellers and a brewery. Easy to get to kellers in Ampferbach and also can walk to Grassmandorff. Finally easy bus access to Brauerei Zehender in Monchsambach (I know I probably didn't spell that right - don't know how to do the German keyboard thing yet). 3. Geisfeld. I did stay one night at hotel Buttner here. Nice place and plenty of beer stuff nearby. Also am intrigued by Gasthof Schiller in Wernsdorf as it looks like a pretty nice hotel and claims to now have the beer from Steinfeld vom Fass these days. Although hotel looks pricey. Still it's an easy walk from Geisfeld as I vaguely recall: http://www.gasthof-schiller.de/en/english.php Maybe you should visit a combo of places instead of just using one base camp? Anyhow, good problem to have. |
