I tried that last week with my homemade Weizen. I was lagering the totally fermented wort, and at that time I have added a few liters of Kräusen (taken from the same batch, frozen, unfrozen 1 day before the lagering and pitched with the top-cropped yeast from the 2nd day of fermentation of the same batch :-) ) immediately. 

I leaved that for a few days more in the fermentation temperature (19-20°C) and the wanted CO2 pressure was created (actually I was calculating how much wort do I need to add, so good calculation). 
So far I do not have any experience with the change of the flavour/taste, as I haven't tasted it yet. But carbonation obviously works.
