It's the pubs that make Sheffield so great IMO and IME, having spent about two weeks there in the last few years. The beer brewed immediately in and around Sheffield may not be substantially different to that of say, Lancs, being all northern (and inherently superior), but the pubs just seem to offer more, and there seem to be so many on the ground. And the town is just nice -- hilly and green, with more trees per capita than any other major EU city, IIRC. Like Bamberg & Rome, it's on seven hills!!!

And the English spoken there be peculiar. (Of course that goes for all of Yorkshire that I've visited.) We was happy to spend a few day' in Scarborough, it were a splendid time.
