No, a "pop-up" thing is something else, something with which I'm not really familiar. These are micropubs in that they are much smaller and simpler operations to operate than modern pubs. No food, no music (though one here has a boom box on, unfortunately), no booze, no crap lager. (I've asked, and quality Franconian lager would be OK to sell, but is there a market for it?) Yes, Ian explained how the change in licencing laws a decade or so ago enables you to get a serving licence and convert a former chippy or hairdresser's into a micropub. Have been enjoying exploring them here immensely. See the Four Candles' own webbie from that whatpub page for more photos and story, including the brand new kit in the cellar. Off now to the vet (Kellerhund has summat on his ear to be looked at) and then off to sunny Canterbury. And am meeting Ian again tonight, will give him your regards. Saw him in Deal on Sunday, Mrs had her first ever carvery, me my first ever Harvey's Sussex Best. |
