German Bank Accounts

I've had a Deutsche Bank account for about 10 years or so now.  I tried to open it in Bamberg but they claimed I had to be an EU resident. So I opened it in Düsseldorf, where not only was it not a problem but they had all the US (IRS) forms for Social Security Number (our tax ID number) and such. There is a quarterly fee, though. For me it is worth it.
