There were dozens or even hundreds in the queue for that vanilla beer when CAMRA put it on a handpump at the GBBF. Tickers, I suppose. I've been bemoaning the lack of proper stout in today's brewing "scene" recently. Hard to find a good, rich, roasty stout any more. Instead, they've become choco/vanilla/Bourbon/bacon experiments. There are a couple proper ones available at the Bierothek here though, a couple of west-coast American classics: Sierra Nevada Stout and Rogue Shakespeare Stout. "West-coast" denoting the use of citric hops, along with a hefty base of 5.6 or 6%, and firmly roasty. But 3.90€ / 33 cl means I'm not drinking much of them, a couple a week as a nightcap. They seem to have not changed in the two or three decades they've been around. Grammar nitpicking time: One can talk about "Franconian brewers". Oder "fränkische Brauer". But "franken brewers" do not exist. |
