If you were willing to take the drive for 1 beer surely the train for 3 or 4 beers makes it more appealing.  


Exactly. That is my plan: next time the weather's nice and I have a Sunday free, I'll do the train/bike route. Three hours alone in the car for 1-1/2 beers ain't worth it, and then if it's as great as everyone says, it'd be silly to invest that time just to cut myself off so short. Whereas if it sucks and I'm there on my bike, I can head right back to Rothenburg, where I've yet to drink any beer.
