Too much Kentish tourism |

We used to fly from here to Manchester, Brum, or even that London for our British getaways...then we got our dog in 2012. We don't leave him behind, and we don't put him in cargo on airplanes, so we started driving instead of flying. Looking around on the interwebs for holiday locations not too far from Folkestone turned up the Blessed Isle of Thanet. *SANDY* beaches, not-so-expensive (not yet completely overrun with Londoners), and a dry microclimate all appeal. And Broadstairs (where we prefer to stay, though Ramsgate ain't as bad as it might sound) is just lovely and quaint. Very international too, owing to a number of English-for-furrin-kids schools in town, and also somewhat artistic. We'd never been to Kent before discovering Thanet. I've been told that Sheps cask beers have been done by high-gravity brewing and then watered down to recipe for many years. They are exceedingly bland. I'll get a pint of Master Brew or Spitfire Gold necked, but beyond one pint is just...nope. Surprised to hear you like them. The Stout is nice though, on nitro, in a pinch. They have some lovely pubs though. People describe SN as a property / estate company that also makes "beer". Great fun to disparage SN with natives in Kentish freehouses. |
