Excellent, comprehensive review, Jason! Glad to see you included the Laufer and Loewenbraeu Adelsdorf, two very rustic, rural experiences.

You list the hike up the Senftenberger Keller is a negative...I always said such expenditures of effort make the reward even sweeter. I came to treat Keller or Gaststaette visits (basically any beer drinking before evening) as rewards for physical exertion, and felt guilty about taking the bus or train right to such a destination. But then I'm a bit of a weirdo.

Sad to hear Buttenheimer Loewenbraeu's beer is continuing to devolve. It was indeed always a bit of a crapshoot. What a splendid place though, and the serving hatch at the brewery's something to experience too. It's worth the risk of the beer being nearly awful.
