As I probably used to go on and on about far too long for most to stomach, Kitzmann's Rotbier was quite distinct. A bit sweet-ish, which I guess you could say was their house character, but it was lower alcohol, around 4%, and had some tasty "red malt" character.

I recall reading about how historically, there was Weizen, normal Bier, and Rotbier. Any new recreations are just guesses at what Rotbier might have been like back then.
